Japanese Rice Cake
The Union of local farmers make SHIOTA rice cake using the local special rice every Monday. It is custom to eat a rice cake on New Year's Day in Japan. However you can find it throughout the year here. They steam the special glutinous rice and make the rice cake from very early morning, 4:00am every day! A rice cake puffs up softly when it is baked. You may enjoy the baked rice cake with soy sauce, You can also put it in soup.
