600-year-old history
Rokujo Hachiman Shrine is the local deity of 13 villages in Yamada area. It has 3-story-tower, which was built in late 14th century, and a Noh stage in the precincts. Noh is the oldest, unique dramatic art in Japan. Noh actors wear characteristic wooden masks and move in a highly stylized way. At the Yabusame traditional ceremony held on the 2nd Sunday of October, horse rider shoot a mark with a bow and arrow. It is said that the origin of this ceremony was martial arts training for Samurai warriors.
