Bow Shinto ceremony
Oyumi(Onyumi) Shinto ceremony using a bow and arrow, is held on February 17th. The chief priest in ancient dress, writes the character "Oni", (ogre), on the mark with a brush. Then after a purification ceremony, 4 shooters shoot arrows towards the mark, praying for prosperity and good harvests. For 40 minutes before shooting, the shooters move in a predetermined and elegant manner, like Noh dramatic art. Every move has meaning, guarding the enshrined deity from the wicked ogre.
